ethnically confused

___See, I have this slight problem. I tend to be ethnically confused at times. My future goals in life are to work in either New York City, Madrid, Taipei, or London (or Tokyo or Paris...). I have the desire to be fluent in Spanish (European preferably) and Mandarin (for Taiwan). And I keep imagining myself living a life in any of these cities.
___In Spain, I see myself dressing like M from my daily style (and sometimes I have her model looks in these dreams, imposible, yo se!) and walking the city streets to my job at Spanish Vogue or Spanish Elle. I have impeccable street style with feminine touches, and I have that allure that seems to come naturally to Spaniards (different from the French allure, mind you). Oh, and I'll be dating someone that looks like Alejandro Tous!
___In Taiwan, I imagine myself looking like myself (only a 100 pound version, since that seems to be what they all look like there!) and working in the entertainment industry as an agent (or hey, why not, let's be an actress!) or for one of the big companies. I get to go to the Golden Bell Awards and meet famous groups like S.H.E. or actors like Mike He or Ariel Lin. I'll dress in adorable clothes ala Luphia's Online Boutique and be dating someone that looks like Jiro Wang or Joe Cheng.

___In London, I imagine myself a bit like Betty at the end of "Ugly Betty." On the go constantly, working for some fashion magazine, getting a bit of British accent, picking up the slang, and living in a flat! Ha, I'll dress in bright colors and funky heels, and be madly in love with someone that looks like Nicholas Hoult or Mitch Hewer.

___Now
the odd part is that I'm Chinese and I've been raised by an Irish Catholic and Russian Jew. Where all this comes from, I have no idea. But, hey, c'est la vie!

What are your dreams of the future or your places to live/visit?

  1. lol I'd love to be an actress! Sure why not! I dunno what my dreams of places to live is though, I like it here, everyone else prob just for vacation... like Taiwan is sweet with the shopping and the food but I wouldn't want to perminately live there I don't think. Might change my mind when I retire though hehe

  2. I think most people these days are a mix of so many different cultures and ethnicities that none of that even matters anymore. You can pretty much go anywhere and learn any language you want without anyone flinching ;-) I grew up with three different cultures and as a result speak 6 languages now (mainly also because I moved around a lot after uni). I say you should live in all the countries you listed... life's too short!

  3. I love all of your dreams and keep on dreaming! Maybe someday they will come true! :) I would love to be a fashion designer who lives in Paris and who gets to shop every day and learn about all of the latest trends. Yay!

  4. I loved reading this. I love having more than one culture in me, and then putting that into my style. I think I would love to live and work in central London, or New York: really buzzing cities.

  6. Every time I visit D.C. I feel like I live there.
In the future, I see myself going back home (I'm Nigerian) or living somewhere in Africa...maybe Tanzania. I envision a peaceful home by the indian ocean. I visited Tanzania not too long ago and I promise you, that breeze from the ocean is God himself at work!

  8. I loved reading this post especially just learning about all the influences behind the various style choices :) I'm filipina but was born and raised in the south and now live on the east coast (and want to move to the west coast) so it's interesting to see how various locations influence a lifestyle!

  12. May all your wishes come true! Like so many others I've lived a gypsy life with my family in Berlin/Germany, Australia, the US and now I'm in England. I learned Spanish in Latin America, which I found easier than 'castellano' ('spanish' Spanish). I think I've settled down a bit now... but some time in Paris would still suit me. My daughter wants to move to NY - I'd love that because then I could visit her.

  15. Oh those sound like fun places to live and work. I work in NYC now and it was one of biggest dreams to work here. It is really amazing, but I am also ready to get to Va with all my friends and family. So I think you can work at any of those places for a while and feel fulfilled!

  16. Honestly, my dreams never change. I want to be a writer living in New York City. I just can't imagine a more fabulous existence. Except, of course, living in my own kingdom - in that case, I believe the latter would take precedence!

I just know that you will accomplish all of your hopes and dreams for the future, my love!! :)

  19. I love that you have such big dreams & can see yourself in so many places! I have to agree, I have all these sides to me as well. I could see myself being a beachy californian, a sweet tea sippin' southern girl, or comopolitan new yorker :)
