adios, ugly betty, yo te perderá

Spoilers ahead!
____No, I haven't been with "Ugly Betty" since it began (though that would be fitting to say since its four seasons have fallen over the span of my high school career), but I have fallen in love with this show. Endings always make me feel sadly emotional because, well, they're endings. I felt the same way finishing "Ugly Betty" as I did when I finished my favorite manga Fruits Basket, watched the last episode of "The O.C.," and read the epilogue of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. You spend so much time with one source of entertainment that you never really believe it will end, and when it does, you even get a little teary eyed! (Or maybe I'm just over emotional?)

___"Ugly Betty" definitely did not upset with its finale. There wasn't this saccharine feeling where everything happens to work out perfectly (too perfectly to be realistic), but there also wasn't a completely unsatisfied ending (I'm lookin' at you, Skins Series 4. There better be a movie for the crap ending you gave us!). And despite the fact there was no overt Daniel/Betty love displayed (not even a kiss), there was definitely a hint at a possibility of more.
___I really did find Wilhelmina's ending to be perfect for her character. Finally having full control of Mode, a magazine she's dedicated her life to? What more fitting end could there be? I honestly thought she was going to run off with Connor, but I'm so happy with this ending. Despite her villainous capabilities throughout the series run, she's always done everything for Mode.
___Justin came out! "He's gay and that's okay!" I absolutely adored his coming out. It was just so sweet and so Justin. He obviously came out before the series finale, but it was a nice way to end his character's run. And Austin is a total cutie.
___Anddd after all her heartache, Hilda finally has the stable marriage she's always wished for. And, ironically, it's with her first boyfriend! (Uhm, full circle, much?!) Bobby, despite my predispositions and my bias towards Archie (aka Ralph Maccio), has proven to be the perfect match for Hilda.
____And Amanda finds her potential! To be a stylist (perfect for her), and she finds her father. Who happens to be quite like her and be gay. And Marc is given more control in Mode as Willie tells him she'll need more help "creatively" from him.
____And of course Daniel and Betty. I really love that Daniel quit Mode and signed over full control to Wilhelmina to do something on his own. And I love that Betty and him meet up in London, leaving a variety of possibilities.

____Over all, the finale was more like a new beginnings episode, and it's fun to imagine all the characters in their new lives.

What do you think? Will you miss Betty?

PS Funnily enough, this week has already improved!

  1. I used to watch Ugly Betty. I completely missed the last season. I loved the first 2 season's, but got a bit bored during the third one. Although, I might watch the last one at some point just to see how it ended.
