on my bookshelf

It's strange, but somehow as the first semester of senior year comes to a close, I find myself with a bit more energy than last year. I usually let my love of literature fall the wayside during the school year (or on this case, the last few years), but as of late I've been bitten by the literary bug. And I feel compelled to share my recent book finds with all my readers, after all, we all have a favorite book that makes us into suddenly voracious readers, right?

Empire Falls Richard Russo
I had to read this for school, but it was absolutely amazing. The first hundred pages, I do admit, were quite slow moving, though interesting, but the last hundred pages just flew by. Russo is incredibly talented at his characterizations, and you will find yourself feeling a tad bit of empathy for everyone, even the "villains."

Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict Laurie Viera Rigler
A light read after Empire Falls. I just finished it last night. Definitely, one hundred percent chick lit, but I love chick lit just as much as I love literature. It is about a woman, Courtney, who finds herself in the time of Jane Austen. It's actually surprisingly interesting for all the historical daily life tid bits about the early 1800's. I'm actually curious as to where Rigler did her research, because it's very interesting. The plot is, of course, very chick lit esque and fun to read.

Aishiteruze Baby! Yoko Maki
Of course, I've read a manga =) This one is absolutely adorable, quite short. It is about the relationship between a typical teenaged boy and his five-year-old cousin, who he must take now take care of.

Currently in queue: The Witch of Cologne, Atonement
What are you reading now?

  1. Your choices of books are superb. Right now, I'm reading a James Patterson book. He is my fave author because I love mysteries and suspense.

  8. Oh, I so adore books - especially when it's raining. There's something about overcast skies that makes me want to curl up with an amazing novel. I'm currently re-reading Madeleine L'Engle's "Camilla." If you haven't read it you absolutely must!! :)

  11. I need to read more, hence why I'm not a good writer. But you are! Such a cute little way of saying the obvious. Oh and I LOVE the shot of your bookshelf. It could be in a magazine. Great styling!
