jessica simpson--billion dollar empire

I read something this morning at fashionspot about Jessica Simpson and her apparel line. You can read for yourself, but basically it is about how she is unqualified and undeserving of the new line of clothes (a denim line, this time, I believe) she is going to launch. Apparently Jessica is going to be the head of a billion dollar empire, and fashionspot, as I'm sure many do too, feel she is quite unworthy.
I feel the need to defend one of my favorite singers from my preteen era (Oh, how many times Angels and Take My Breath Away were played in the car!). Because yes, she may be a reality star known for her ditzy, mess of a self. Her country attempt failed miserably. Her pop albums certainly aren't going to be too remembered decades from now. Her movies are a complete and total joke.

BUT

Her clothing lines are the one thing she's gotten right all this time. She knows a woman's figure. She's had her weight and body ups and downs. She's a girl's girl. She knows clothes. Sure, she doesn't have formal training, but that doesn't make her line bad. In fact, it's pretty legitimate. Everything I've found of her line is well made and well fitting.

What do you think? Worthy or Unworthy?

  1. I think she's worthy of a clothing line. I'm not that much of a fan of her music but I will definitely give her credit that she always looks like a million bucks. Her hair is always put together nicely & her outfits are flawless. I would definitely check out her new line if its not too expensive.

  2. Well spoken, S. Elisabeth! I do not know much about Jessica Simpson, but there are certainly others heading clothes lines who know less about clothes and fashion.... So no problem for me. Sabine x

  3. i agree, though jessica's singing/acting career has faded away. she does make some pretty darn cute shoes. i'm not sure how much influence she has on the collection-- but i'm happy for her.

  5. She is worthy...and I love that she addresses the needs of "real" women and not those "model" types only.

  7. I"ve never bought anything or seen any clothes from her line, but I'm familiar with some of the shoes she's launched which I think looked good enough. Everyone has a right to launch whatever product they want and if it's successful, it just proves there's a market out there for her and she's doing something right. There are far less 'deserving' celebrities. Lohan with all her drug issues and breakdowns would be someone I considered more undeserving of working in fashion than Ms. Simpson who's worked hard all her life and has high moral standards.

  8. Hmm, I'm a bit on the fence with her. She can look so great at times and so wrong at others! It's always more of a hit or miss with her. With that said, I've yet to check out her line so there may be some surprising, lovely things in store I hope:)

  9. i dunno, i think hollywood stars mainly should just stick to acting/singing. i mean lindsey lohan's line debut was just a disaster a few months ago. and jessica simpson with denim!? she's known for her diper jeans a few months back!

  10. I think that a lot of people dislike seeing celebrities handed clothing lines; but some of them have really created amazing stuff...Jessica's is one of those lines. I'm a HUGE fan of her shoes, and a lot of her clothes are adorable. I think she's worthy. :)

  11. I really like Jessica Simpson's clothes and shoes too! Actually, I like her shoes better than her clothes, but it's a really good line. I remembered being pleasantly surprised by it :)

ps I have a giveaway on my blog open to Canadian and US residents, so come and check it out!

  12. Ugh, I am actually not a fan of these "stars" desperately holding on to fame by starting a clothing line full of other people's designs that they slap their names on. As if they are really in the shop painstakingly sketching out designs... no way.
But that is just my humble opinion :)

By the way, I like your blog and I've just become a follower!

  14. I love Jessica Simpson and I am not a huge fan of her music as much anymore, but I think she is definitely worth of her empire and it takes a lot of hard work to be where she is at. I can't wait to learn more and see her clothing line.
