a little escapism

____I can feel the wind blowing wildly through my hair as I speed along the winding country roads with a growing sense of urgency. From what I do not know. The sight of the city, full of grime and noise, is fading behind me as the image of azure skies colliding with bright green fields begin to surround me. I drive for miles and miles along the dirt roads until the woods begin to overtake the imagery. The delicate leaves hang over the road like a curtain for me to pass through.
___I see it then. I see my escape. The tattered, ancient cottage hidden in the trees. The once white washed walls are faded to an earthy gray; the windows are either broken or missing. The burgundy shingles from the roof have fallen away in parts. The garden is far overgrown with wildflowers beginning to replace the once structured plants. I park my car along the road and step out, grabbing my purse with me. The air is quiet with only faint chirping noises to provide a soundtrack. I teeter on my heels along the cracked, stony path and in through the front door, another piece broken with time.
___The inside is as equally worn as its outside. A cool sun is providing light for all the rooms, once filled with children and noise, now barren. I reach the area where a back door once stood, and stand by the archway. The sun is even brighter here. I see the swimming hole, only a few feet from the door, as deep and calm as it always had been.
___My heart is still racing from the long drive, and I can hear its beating in my ears. That sense of urgency is still rushing through my veins. I drop my purse to the dusty floors and hear it crunch a few dead leaves. It is this slow drop that suddenly sparks my energy. Soon I am kicking off my heels, ripping off my tights, pulling my dress over my head, and discarding all of it onto the ground with my purse.
___I then run, like a child, and head right into the swimming hole. The sudden rush of icy coldness surrounds me like a blanket, and I stay under in that total silence until my lungs feel as though they are going to burst. Then I swim to the surface and inhale the sweet air of nature and smile.
___I've made it.

Hope you liked my little attempt at writing!
