jean paul gaultier=anna sui part II

Aghh sorry for the hold up on posting. I had a horrible headache yesterday which resulted in an embarrassing vomiting accident last period. But I won't gross you out with the details!
I was really disappointed with the Jean Paul Gaultier for Target collection. It reminded me strongly of the Anna Sui one back last Fall. The first problem is that it is only released in a limited number of Targets. Seriously, making your collection so "exclusive" does not make me want to buy it any more. Actually if I know it is not in a Target less than twenty minutes from me, I'd rather not spend my money.
The second problem is that Jean Paul Gaultier just went too commercial. I mean there is nothing amazing about any of the items. With Rodarte there were a ton of pieces that made me want to spend a little more on. The nude bow tie dress (which was only forty, if I recall), and of course the leopard dress, which I did buy. They were all pieces you knew you'd find nowhere else. The Jean Paul collection could be found at Kohl's or JCPenney's--for a quarter of the price.

Therein lies the next problem. Nothing in this collection makes me want to pay the price. The quality doesn't look any better than any other collaboration and, as I said before, none of the pieces make me want to buy instantly.
And the final problem is that barely anything actually looks very flattering. Sure the models make all the clothes look decent, but half the dresses look like they'd be quite unflattering on anyone whose not tall and thin. Those halter dresses (in the style of the famous yellow one) look like they'd be completely inappropriate for anyone with higher than an A-cup.

All in all, I'm really disappointed, Jean Paul Gaultier. From the guy who invented the famous Madonna cone shaped bra, and is incredibly artistic and fashion forward, I feel totally ripped off. It's like when I heard Mary Kate & Ashley were designing Olsenboye for JCPenney's, and instead of finding a cheaper version of The Row or Elizabeth and James, I got their Walmart collection from the preteen years. Hopefully Target's next collection will be less commercial, and more fashion.

  1. I have to say that I agree. I would NOT spend that much on these unless it looked great and I could wear it a bunch of times.

  3. I totally agree, a total disappointment. I adore his jeans line for men and though this would be awesome...but it sucked :(

  4. Sounds like he didn't really put his heart into it. Disappointing because these 'cheap collections' give young and not so super wealthy fashionistas a chance to get to know (and own) a piece of designer. I've got a JP Gaultier jeans for a French department store (sorry, can't remember the name right now) and it's been one of my favourite pieces for years.

  5. Aw, I hope you're feeling better!

And you're right. Though the pieces are cute - they're not totally amazing. But I think Anna Sui's line was worse haha.

  6. Hmm, I think only the middle dress in the second row looks remotely interesting.

  7. This is such a fabulous review, my love! I haven't seen the collection in person yet, but I already know that I won't be buying. I'm a little outraged at the prices myself. It's Target, not Nordstrom! :/

  8. I haven't gone to see his collection yet, I don't know if the Target in this area offers it, but I remember being really disappointed with Anna Sui. I felt the material used was WORSE than some of the other generic brands that target offers. No thank you.

    Kisses,

  10. Sorry to hear it disappointed you! There's no Target in London so I can't say anything else!
