So, I'm bubbling slightly from how much I'm in love with this movie I've found. Me Without You is a visual feast as well as a really well written, well acted movie (although the end was a bit rushed for me), and has become one of my absolute favorites. Michelle Williams plays Holly, the shy, conservative half of a very close friendship while Anna Friel plays the energetic, crazy Marina. It follows them from childhood in the seventies to adulthood in the eighties.
I, of course, identified with Holly. I would certainly not be able to pull off or do half the things Marina does. I really enjoyed her quiet way of dealing with Marina's dramatics, and of course I absolutely adored...
her very long, slightly unrequited love with Marina's older brother, Nat. It has a different ring to it than typical relationships under this genre, and I absolutely fell in love with them together. It doesn't help that he's played by Oliver Milburn, who I loved in Tess of D'Urbervilles.
And in terms of cinematography, it reminded me a bit of The Virgin Suicides (though no one quite has an eye like Sophia Coppola). See for yourself.
